Subject: our boy John -- the NYTimes
Subject: NYT on Info Hwy traffic jam Date: Wed, 03 Nov 1993 09:39:52 -0600 From: "Gregory B. Newby" <gbnewby@uxh.cso.uiuc.edu> There's a well-done article on the Information Highway Traffic Jam in today's (Wednesday 11/3/93) New York Times (pA1 & C7). They interviewed a number of people, including folks at MSEN, Merit, NCSA, Panix, and ANI. The basic conclusion is that new applications (esp. MOSAIC) are combining with the growth in users (they provide an estimate of 15 million Internet users worldwide) to make for a massive bottleneck. Although they stretch the traffic metaphor a bit (do people really rubberneck as they "'drive by' an 'accident scene?'"), the article is well done and points to a real concern that many Internet users may be oblivious to (not we on c-p, of course!). -- Greg
