Dave, the Bells responded to the FBI story.  It's only fair that
their response be posted, too.  Here you go:




The Bell companies responded Monday to my FBI digital wiretap
story. The response was issued from R.L. Mickey Mcguire, a
BellSouth executive vice-president and chmn. of a
Washington-based ad hoc working group of the heads of the 7 Bell
companies.  The group was formed to meet periodically "on issues
of mutual interest."


Here is Mcguire's response:  "Representatives of the Federal
Bureau of Investigation and the RHCs have met to address these
very sensitive issues.  All participants in these negotiations
worked in good faith to resolve these issues.  There is no
foundation whatsoever to any suggestions to the contrary."
