Subject: for NYCites SEA April 5th Event with Mitch Kapor and others
The Society for Electronic Access (SEA) is hosting a panel discussion
on:
The Future of Telecommunications in an Era of Media Mergers.
Panelists include:
Mitch Kapor - Founder, Lotus Development, and Co-Founder and
Board Chair, Electronic Frontier Foundation.
Jeff Richards - Director, National Affairs, The Pacific-Telesis
Group. Currently coordinates activities of the MFJ
Task Force, an ad hoc committee created by the seven
regional Bell companies to achieve relief from the
1984 AT&T Bell System divestiture decree.
Marc Powell - Consultant with the Computer, Communication, and
Electronics Group at Booz-Allen & Hamilton where he
specializes in strategic issues facing firms across
the computer, communication, and media industries.
Eli Noam - Director of the Columbia Institute for
Tele-Information, and Professor of Finance &
Economics, Columbia University.
The distinctions between providers of video, voice, and network
services are becoming blurred both with the increased use of digital
formats for storage and transmission, and with the mergers and
joint-ventures being contemplated between cable and telephone
companies. Distinctions are also blurring between data-carriers and
content-producers. The panelists will compare and contrast the
perspective of industry, government, and the public on these issues.
There is no charge to attend the event BUT YOU MUST HAVE A CONFIRMED
RESERVATION to attend.
The event will be held on Tuesday, April 5th 1994 at:
The New York Times Building
QXR Auditorium
229 West 43rd St. (between 7th and 8th Avenue) in Manhattan.
Doors will open at 6:15 PM and we hope to start the discussion
promptly at 7 PM.
