THE NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY has signed a cooperative research and
development agreement with MCI to test Naval environmental simulation
and prediction applications using MCI's nationwide Asynchronous
Transfer Mode network.  The network, dubbed the Global Environmental
Grid Demonstration, will assess the benefits and capabilities of this
high-speed virtual data cell switching technology for transferring
remotely sensed and simulated environmental data among three Naval
research centers.
