Subject: Cocke to Receive Japan's Nippon Electric Corporation (NEC) Prize
Cocke to Receive Japan's Nippon Electric Corporation (NEC) Prize John Cocke, retired IBM Fellow, Thomas J. Watson Research Center, has been named recipient of the 1994 Computers and Communication (C&C) Prize. Cocke was recognized for his contributions to the computer industry in the creation of the Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) and Program Optimization Technology. The C&C Prize consists of a certificate, a medal and a cash award. It is underwritten by the NEC Foundation and awarded annually to one scientist outside Japan. The award will be presented at the C&C Prize commendation ceremony in Tokyo on October 26, 1994. Marc A. Auslander, systems, will accept the prize on behalf of Cocke who is unable to attend due to a previous commitment.
