REPUBLICANS TAKE AIM AT NIST
An op-ed piece in the Washington Post predicts the National Institute of
Standards and Technology is hunkering down as the new Republican majority
in Congress focuses on getting government out of the "innovation
investment" business. The agency for the past two years has subsidized
high-risk high-tech R&D through government-industry partnerships.
Republicans tend to feel that the Clinton administration's efforts to boost
high-tech competitiveness smack of government intervention in the
marketplace, and would like to see it end. (Washington Post 11/18/94)
