If you hadn't heard from the UK already, this all sounds like deja vu
to us. There have been several small and medium-sized Internet
providers around for a couple of years here, but now British Telecom
(the near-monopoly phone provider) has decided to jump into the
market. It will suck up the bigger businesses first, in late 1994 then
sometime next year it will be going after dial-up accounts. The only
problem for them is that the public still looks to them for "public
service" even though it was privatised years ago, so it's nervous of
being accused of peddling porn by providing Internet feeds...
