Subject: IP: he Birth of the Information Age
The University of Pennsylvania launches a celebration of The Birth of the Information Age with special events this week in Philadelphia, in conjunction with ACM Computing Week '96. This Wednesday, February 14 is the 50th Anniversary of the first public demonstration of ENIAC. To mark the occasion, Vice President Gore will speak on "The Technology Challenge: Can America Spark Private Innovation?" and preside over a ceremonial re-activation of (components of) ENIAC at its original location at Penn's Moore School. Both events will be broadcast on the MBONE. Other events during the week include: - the ACM Chess Challenge (the computer won round one against Kasparov) - four ACM Conferences - announcements of the ACM Turing and other awards - an Educational Technology Showcase in Penn's Houston Hall.
