Subject: IP: Sidgmore wants "long distance" charges for Net
From: Brett Glass <brett@lariat.org> John Sidgmore has announced that he'd like to throw the Net back into the Dark Ages, imposing the distance-sensitive pricing that's such a windfall for old-fashioned telephone companies. (He's also said that the $20/month rate now being charged by ISPs is "too little" -- another hint that he'd hike prices in the absence of competition.) The scary thing is that if the merger goes forward, he could actually do this. See http://www.techweb.com/wire/story/ni9805/TWB19980507S0004
