In May 1998, Interpol (The International Criminal Police Organization) and 
an NGO, ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking 
of Children for Sexual Purposes) held a meeting at Interpol headquarters to 
discuss the problems of stopping the distribution of child pornograpy on the 
Internet. The meeting brought together approximately 50 experts from various 
disciplines around the world including law enforcement agencies, some large
Internet service providers, and NGO's concerned with child rights.

At that meeting a prototype of a child pornography detection software developed
by a German police officer/IT specialist was demonstrated based on detecting 
file fingerprints (a lot of child pornography has been catalogued). 
Development 
was taken over by a German company and in the last few days they've announced 
test versions available (DOS/Win95/98/NT with Unix versions to come). They say
the software is being used by the German BKA, Interpol, Scotland Yard, and the 
FBI.
