NORTEL ANNOUNCES 1.6 TERABIT TRANSMISSION: 
Nortel Networks has 
introduced a technology that transmits over 160 parallel channels on a 
single fiber, making total capacity 1.6 terabits (trillion bits) per 
second. MCI WorldCom will begin a technical trial in the fourth 
quarter.
