Subject: IP: two on The Battle of Seattle

[Two reactions to the note. These are rational reactions -- well semi at
least. Some reactions I got were more noisy and in a way definitely anti
american - at least if you believe in the first amendment as being critical
to what is the USA (and I do) . Anyway I do try to reflect the multiple
sides of issues and will continue to send out things that I think will make
people THINK. djf]

It's certainly amazing to me how an organization that spends 95% of it's
time trying to figure out what it's agenda should be (and usually doesn't)
has landed on the list with black helicopters and secret societies. Seattle
is still a small town in many respects, primarily in it's attitudes and
provincialism. It wasn't prepared for an event like this and the city
government was naïve in thinking that everyone would behave. And a couple
of hundred rabble rousers turned the whole thing south and the cops,
undermanned and undertrained, over-reacted in some cases. This was no
battle between good and evil - just a mess. And Michael Moore's spin on it
is as ridiculous as the mayor's, "We need to start talking in terms of
peace," Schell said. "There is not a `Battle of Seattle.' What there is is a
wonderful expression of free speech."

Nobody won, everybody lost, and nothing was
