EU Warns U.S. Over Telecoms Deal

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The European Union could file a WTO complaint against
Washington if the U.S. Congress blocked German telecommunications giant
Deutsche Telekom AG (DTEGn.DE) from buying U.S. wireless telephone company
VoiceStream Wireless Corp. (VSTR.O), an EU spokesman said on Sunday.

Willy Helin, spokesman for the EU delegation in Washington, said the United
States would be in violation of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules if it
approved legislation to ban the takeover of a U.S. telecoms operator by a
company more than 25 percent-owned by a foreign government.
