Indeed. The Internet community is suffering the fate of Candide in the
hands of ICANN's Dr. Pangloss, the At Large Study Committee, in ICANN's
version of this best of all possible worlds.

I'm still on the Board of ICANN. But I'm staying at home rather than
going to Uruaguay (arm troubles make it hard to sit on long flights.)
This at-large study thing has all the attributes of one of those 1950's
"studies" on things like the status of women or the status of blacks -
studies that didn't have a single women or black on their panels - and
thus lapsed into the limbo of unacceptance by those whom they were trying
to help.

It's been nearly forty years since Kennedy took a leap of faith and said
"we will put a man on the moon". Look how much we've devolved since then:
ICANN seems not to have even that little scrap of bravery or imagination
needed to actually let the Internet community have a meaningful say in
their own fate.
