There was an amusing item in the "joke a day" mailing list that pointed out something deeply disturbing about this incident.

It is not particularly disturbing (or particularly surprising) that AOL is unable to stop the on-going, massive abuse of their system by spammers, but somehow manages to stop email from Harvard about admissions.

No, what is really disturbing is that future Harvard students -- potentially leaders in politics and industry in future years -- use AOL for their primary email address.

Be afraid, be very afraid. :-)
