Subject: IP: Launch of Chillingeffects.org
------ Forwarded Message From: Cindy Cohn <Cindy@eff.org> Date: Mon, 25 Feb 2002 08:54:52 -0800 To: Dave@farber.net Subject: Launch of Chillingeffects.org Hi Dave, IP'ers might be interested in this project that EFF has launched with several major law schools to give Internet users basic legal information about claims made in cease and desist letters. We're hoping it will stop people from censoring themselves when they receive phony legal claims about their speech online. The website is at www.chillingeffects.org "The Internet makes it easier for individuals to speak to a wide audience, but it also makes it easier for other people and corporations to silence that speech," said Berkman Center Fellow Wendy Seltzer, who conceived the project and programmed the website. "Chilling Effects aims to level the field by helping online speakers to understand their rights in the face of legal threats." http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/25/technology/ebusiness/25CHIL.html Cindy ************************************************ Cindy A.
