I see that Yipes, the much-hyped venture-backed gigabit service provider,
has filed for Chapter 11 protection. The story is noteworthy for the scale
of the debacle: Yipes had attracted $291 million in venture capital from 30
investors, including Norwest Venture Partners, New Enterprise Associates,
The Sprout Group/Credit Suisse First Boston, Focus Ventures, J.P. Morgan
Partners, BancBoston Ventures, Soros Private Equity Partners, Focus Capital,
and Intel Capital.
