this is all very interesting, because in the embedded systems
magazines, MS has been running a large, aggressive ad campaign
for "Embedded XP" and one thing they tout at great length is
the fact the system is broken into over a thousand modular components
that let a developer create exactly the footprint and functional
capability required for some device.

it would seem their court testimony and these adverts paint a rather
different story

i wonder which one is telling the truth?
