Subject: IP: EtherPeg montages of web surfing during conference keynote
Wish EtherPeg was OSX compatible djf ------ Forwarded Message From: "Tim O'Reilly" <tim@oreilly.com> Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 21:09:49 -0700 To: David Farber <dave@farber.net> Subject: EtherPeg montages of web surfing during conference keynote Dave, People like Dan Gillmor have recently pointed out how live weblogging during conferences is changing the way people speak, given real time feedback, or at least knowing that it's happening out there in the audience. In this context, I wanted to point out an amazing article by Rob Flickenger, who used the Mac OS X hack EtherPeg (which uses a packet sniffer to pick up GIFs and JPEGs off a LAN) to develop montages of the web surfing images coming over a wireless LAN during a conference keynote. Rob's article is an amazing piece of writing, a demonstration of a cool Mac OS X and wireless hack, and a thought-provoking demonstration of the privacy implications of open wireless networks, all in one. The article is called "Tapping the alpha geek noosphere with EtherPEG." It's at http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view/wlg/1414. This is really mind-bending and brings the new reality of wireless networks in public spaces viscerally home. -- Tim O'Reilly @ O'Reilly & Associates, Inc. 1005 Gravenstein Highway North, Sebastopol, CA 95472 1-707-829-0515 http://www.oreilly.com, http://tim.oreilly.com ------ End of Forwarded Message For archives see: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
