Subject: IP: more on Oh those damn false positives again -- More on biometric shortcomings:]
The problem is over hype/ Like many of the technological miracles such as AI etc It has been so over-hyped as the REAL solution , that the utility of what can be done is missed. There is a lesson to be learned which will most likely not be learned Dave ------ Forwarded Message From: "Joseph P. Campbell" <jpc@ll.mit.edu> Organization: M.I.T. Although this was a very small test and it's unclear if the training images were representative of what could be expected of terrorists, the results appear to confirm what those of us in the field have been saying all along about the use of current facial recognition technology to detect terrorists in airports. After the marketing dust settles, I don't believe that anyone expects current facial recognition technology to be a "silver bullet" and operate effectively all by itself. A much better question would be - how can current technology be used to improve current operations? It's unfortunate that the report fails to address this and that, according to the article, facial recognition technology is being dismissed altogether. Joe ------ End of Forwarded Message
