E.g., NTT expected to have 150,000 subs for its 3G "FOMA" service by March, 2002, but only had about 90,000. At the current rate of adoption, and given problems rolling out the service, it will still only have about 200,000 by March, 2002. Their estimate had been almost 1.4 million! There's also good info about KDDI's own 3G service, "CDMA 2000 1X," which is attracting about 330,000 subs in a month, according to the story, and J-Phone's "Sha-Mail" phones with built-in CCD cameras for transmitting still photos. (The latter very popular with Japanese teens, although it may be just another fad.) http://www.nikkeibp.asiabiztech.com/wcs/leaf?CID=onair/asabt/fw/193100 ------ End of Forwarded Message For archives see: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
