------ Forwarded Message From: Bruce Kushnick <bruce@NEWNETWORKS.COM> For those of you in New York City, Bruce Kushnick, Teletruth Topic: "Municipal Broadband Policy and its Relationship to Small Business and Community-Based Development" On Tuesday, December 10 at 10:00 a.m. the Select Committee on Technology in Government and the Subcommittee on Small Business, Retail, and Emerging Industries will hold a joint hearing on broadband policy and its relation to small business and community-based development. Of particular interest to the committees will be the effect that local broadband policies and municipal practices can have in stimulating a wider and more affordable dissemination of both fiber-optic and high-speed (DSL, cable modem) networks. Several of the major fiber-optic and broadband carriers in NYC including Cablevision, Verizon, Time Warner Cable, Metromedia Fiber Network, Con Edison Communications, and AT&T will provide public comment. These companies will be joined by representatives of national and municipal entities who are working on innovative ways that cities can encourage broadband development including representatives from Canada's national fiber authority, the local non-profit NYCWireless, and several small businesses and community-based organizations. Time: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Date: December 10, 2002 Location: 250 Broadway, 14th floor Hearing Room (across from City Hall) ------ End of Forwarded Message ------------------------------------- To unsubscribe or update your address, click http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
