The other interesting questions are where would we be if US and British companies hadn't supplied Iraq with chemical and other weapons? What if Donald Rumsfeld hadn't met with Saddam to promise US support? What if Alan Clark, a British defence minister, hadn't approved weapons exports? Saddam is a highly dangerous and brutal man but the attacks on him would carry far more moral weight if they were from people that hadn't previously supported him at a time when he was actually using chemical weapons. I've never been very clear at what point he switched from being "good" to being "evil".
