POST OFFICES GET WIRED. There are currently some 6,600 public-access
Internet outlets in post offices across Russia, Prime-TASS reported
on 28 January, citing Ilya Genkin of the postal-services department
of the Communications Ministry. According to Genkin, this number
represents a more than six-fold increase from the beginning of 2002
when there were just over 1,000 such outlets. Under a project
launched in August 2001, Internet access is to be set up at all of
Russia's 40,000 post offices, the agency reported.
