Subject: Stambler v RSA goes to jury
Dave, the patent trial Stambler v RSA Security et al went to the jury
yesterday afternoon; a verdict could be rendered today. At issue is
whether patents issued to Leon Stambler cover SSL, and therefore
products that use it.
I attended two days of the trial last week, my report, "Who Invented
E-Commerce?" is at
<http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/WEBONLY/wonews/mar03/stambler.html>.
My guess is that Stambler will lose, but every lawyer I talked with
told me that you can never be certain of the outcome when a patent
case goes to a jury.
