Subject: [IP] Theft from Iraq
------ Forwarded Message From: Mohammad Al-Ubaydli <mo@mo.md> Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 09:48:44 -0400 To: dave@farber.net Subject: Theft from Iraq Dear Dave, A couple of interesting stories have been going through the Arab press today. The first one says that many pieces looted from the Baghdad museum were taken by Iraqis who were disgusted at their fellow citizens' theft. They hid the pieces in their own homes, and are now returning them to the authorities. (This is helped by a no-questions-asked policy by the US authorities, and local Muslim readers including requests for the return of the pieces during their prayer calls. The second story mentions that two Fox journalists were intercepted by US authorities on their landing in the USA. They had been trying to smuggle several pieces of art, and some Iraqi bonds. I read both stories in the Arabic press: http://www.asharqalawsat.com But have managed to find the second story covered in this morning's Guardian: http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/story/0,7493,943530,00.html For IP, if you wish. mohammad Dr Mohammad Al-Ubaydli e mo@mo.md w www.mo.md ------ End of Forwarded Message ------------------------------------- To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
