No less a journalistic luminary than Ben Bradlee himself weighed in on this subject a few years ago on one of the Watergate anniversaries.

Bradley, then long retired, was speaking to a Washington Post reporter for a story about the possible identify of Deep Throat.

Bradlee is one of the only people to know the true identity of Deep Throat; Woodward himself told Bradlee.

In that W.Post story Bradlee said that in this day and age he is amazed that someone with a computer and excellent research on "who was either in Washington or out of the area" at specific times when Woodward said he met with Deep Throat should be able to figure it out.
