Richard and Dave: I recently worked with a PC Magazine team which performed extensive tests of "spyware removers." The results are included in the finished article at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,978009,00.asp Note that Spybot Search & Destroy was the top-rated product (better than any of the ones that cost money) and caused no problems when we tested it on Windows XP Home. In fact, it got the highest system stability rating. It is always possible that some piece of spyware could "throw a tantrum" and crash the machine if an attempt is made to disable it, but this (if it happens) is likely the result of malicious intent on the part of the creator of the spyware. If you see problems after running any spyware removal tool on a Windows system, I'd recommend running Microsoft's configuration utilities and disabling any suspicious software that's set to run at boot time (either as a startup program or as a service). This will likely solve the problem. --Brett Glass ------ End of Forwarded Message ------------------------------------- To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
