This Chicago Tribune story is an eye-opener that discusses William Daley (Chicago Mayor Daley's brother, the new SBC president), as well as a state legislator whose wife is a paid SBC lobbyist, the role played by union leaders, and the brand-new Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich (Blah-goy-a-victch), who raised the possibility of SBC pulling its corporate business center from the state if the law wasn't passed, even though SBC itself made no such threat. Most savvy political observers have noted that this stinky political mess -- called the most anti-consumer piece of legislation to be proposed in Illinois in many years -- is simply proof that Illinois power politics is well and thriving. Blagojevich, it should be noted, ran as the reform candidate. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-0305100057may10,1,6811803.story Note: The Trib requires free registration, like the NY Times. - Tim Onosko ------ End of Forwarded Message ------------------------------------- To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
