Dave,

Bush is using the unusual technique of a recess appointment to put Daniel
Pipes on the board for the United States Institue for Peace. Pipes is
an extremist who advocates shutting down Islamicist web sites, the
firing of tenured professors who critisize Israel and the leveling
of Palestinian villages.

Bush could not get him appointed by the Republican Congress, so he
is using a recess appointment, which is supposed to be reserved for
emergencies.
