Subject: [IP] Euro Space Agency researches knowing where every car is, at all times
Date: Sat, 13 Sep 2003 17:51:22 -0500 From: jamie rishaw <jamie@arpa.com> Ran across this one looking around the ESA web site.. Apparently the European Space Agency(ESA) is looking into how cars can have "black boxes," which would report to satellites where they are, when, and at what times. It's only a matter of time before someone in the US gets wind, huh? http://www.esa.int/export/esaCP/SEMBC5ZO4HD_index_0.html "In April this year the European Commission published a proposal that all vehicles should pay road tolls electronically, with full implementation foreseen for 2010. Under the proposal, all vehicles will carry a 'black box', which will be tracked by satellites relaying information on the distance travelled by the vehicle, the class of road travelled and the time at which the journey was made.
