Subject: [IP] Saving Seeds Subjects Farmers to Suits Over Patent
Delivered-To: dfarber+@ux13.sp.cs.cmu.edu Date: Mon, 03 Nov 2003 11:28:36 -0800 From: magic <magic@ecomagic.org> Subject: Re: [IP] Saving Seeds Subjects Farmers to Suits Over Patent To: dave@farber.net Dave, McFarland's and Scruggs' stories pale by comparison to that of Percy Schmeiser, whose Saskatchewan canola fields were contaminated with Monsanto's Round-Up Ready Canola. Monsanto's position is that it doesn't matter whether Schmeiser knew or not that his canola field was contaminated with the Roundup Ready gene and that he must pay their Technology Fee. Monsanto won at trial, and Schmeiser's appeal will be heard by Canada's supreme court early in 2004.
