In a sense this kind of DNS registration is competing with other solutions
for digital object registration which are offered through ANSI, and
IANA, for long term persistent naming/numbering. As to whether DNS will
still be around, who knows.

The ANSI registration has always been *much*
more money than a simple domain registration, but there's no
expiration date, which allows for complete uniqueness of
the various object descriptors from now forward. They
also have a dispute resolution process.

Domain names are like an internet front door address,
so people can find you, but any in
depth interaction between parties usually involves an
exchange of intellectual, and other property which will likely
involve more in depth naming and numbering. Such was
the lesson of .com, there has to be more than a name and a web
site.
