Subject: [IP] more on Report seeks more secure world for software development
Delivered-To: dfarber+@ux13.sp.cs.cmu.edu Date: Sat, 03 Apr 2004 19:21:17 -0800 From: Thomas Leavitt <thomas@thomasleavitt.org> Subject: Re: [IP] Report seeks more secure world for software development To: dave@farber.net "The patching process needs to be revamped, such as no longer requiring reboots during installation, and providing awards and other incentives to those developers and vendors who create secure product." As someone who just spent four hours watching "Windows Update" "patch" an installation of XP for my employer, a process which required half a dozen reboots, this statement induces giggles. How many billions should we pay Microsoft in "awards and incentives" to quit shipping broken and bug ridden software? Could be a lucrative business for them.
