Subject: [IP] It's Cool To Be Hot
[ Note I am an advisor to Boingo djf]Here is a short version of Linksys Boingo relationship on newsweek. The longer version of the story should be out in week of 5/9 Newsweek issue:
<http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4892333/>http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4892333/ By L.S. NewsweekMay 17 issue - Getting hot is getting easier, thanks to "Hot Spot in a Box," an off-the-shelf Wi-Fi product marketed to small-business owners. Available at stores like Best Buy, the product includes service from Boingo Wireless, a southern California Wi-Fi firm, and a router from Linksys, a division of Cisco. For about $250, buyers get all the equipment and directions needed to permit customers and clients to connect to the Net wirelessly.
Wireless industry giants like Wayport and T-Mobile reserve their Wi-Fi setups for the McDonald's and Starbucks of the world, but small-business owners can also hire an independent Wi-Fi company like Sip and Surf to install a system. Or they can buy equipment separately to set up a network. But "Hot Spot" seems to offer the cheapest combination of ease and security.
