TV stations in Flint MI (eg WJRT TV-12) received a fax last week, indicating that it is illegal to hire transport, to help able-bodied people get to the polls. The specific law has to do with restrictions on inducing people to vote, by paying them, etc. Here's the actual legal entry, provided in the fax, and found at:http://www.michiganlegislature.org/mileg.asp? page=getObject&objName=mcl-168-931&highlight=
Michigan Election Law, Act 116 of 1954 Section 168.931 Prohibited conduct; violation as misdemeanor; "valuable consideration" defined. Paragraph 1(f): A person shall not hire a motor vehicle or other conveyance or cause the same to be done, for conveying voters, other than voters physically unable to walk, to an election. For the record, the fax appears to have originated from attorneys Schmid & Schmid of Saginaw MI, 1-989-799-4641, schmidlaw@msn.com Who knows where this one will lead............. -John Murray ------------------------------------- To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
