There have been some allegations that the optical scanners in some
Florida counties delivered far too high a vote for Bush, given the
heavily Democratic registration.  An unofficial recount by the Miami
Herald confirms the official tallies:

Of course, these were paper ballots; a hand recount *is* possible with
them...
