the stupidity of this idea is just mind-boggling

it's not like The Weather Channel does real marine forecasts,
or has their own weather bouys.  Or how about crop drying
forecasts??

there are a lot of consumers of weather data other that
cable TV viewers that will be *seriously* screwed
in potentially life-threatening ways if this lunacy
is allowed to proceed.
