Cleary the Internet was invented by a Frenchman named Claude Chappe in 1792.

The protocol allowed 196 packet types. The packets were switched and passed to the next router until they were delivered to the final destination. It required d
edicated, trained individuals to keep running.

The initial implementation contained 15 routers spread over 120 miles. The speed was slow by today's standards; slightly over one packet per minute. However, it
 was fast compared to other communications of the day.

It was initially developed for the military but later saw wide commercial use.

There was an accepted data compression algorithm in use, which allowed two of the basic packets to represent 8464 difference words or phrases.

The initial implementation was wireless.
