(San Francisco) Wired News on Monday reported on the resurgence of Usenet newsgroups as a means of downloading copyrighted content like full-length movies. Benefiting from new commercial, high- bandwidth Usenet services, as well as a new file format called NZB that protects against lost bits of download data, the improved Usenet architecture is now seeing 60GB of DVD rips posted each day, according to NewsAdmin. "Though the copyright industries boast significantly improved geekery and monitoring technology, Usenet remains relatively unmonitored," digital music consultant Toby Lewis told Wired News.
