Subject: [IP] Godwin's Reason column on Grokster decision
Begin forwarded message: From: Andy Oram <andyo@oreilly.com> Date: June 29, 2005 12:00:45 PM EDT To: dave@farber.net Cc: Mike Godwin <mnemonic@well.com> Subject: Godwin's Reason column on Grokster decision If intent is now a consideration in determining whether a technology is illegal, where does that leave an idealist such as Freenet's Ian Clarke, who announced that his pioneering P2P technology "permits the publication, replication, and retrieval of data while protecting the anonymity of both authors and readers." Seems like, once again, private companies can force policies that governments legally could not.
