Subject: [IP] ICANN (again) defers decision on .xxx top-level domain
Begin forwarded message: From: Lauren Weinstein <lauren@vortex.com> Date: September 17, 2005 12:10:32 PM EDT To: dave@farber.net Cc: lauren@vortex.com Subject: ICANN (again) defers decision on .xxx top-level domain Dave, As noted in: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory?id=1134094 ICANN has again deferred a decision on the ".xxx" top-level domain (TLD), supposedly to seek contract changes with proposed registry ICM. If this information is correct, it suggests that ICANN is still intent in pushing through the TLD, despite the objections of persons and organizations across the political and technical spectrum. The original IP thread on this controversy starts at:http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/200506/ msg00015.html
I suggest that my statement at: http://lists.elistx.com/archives/interesting-people/200508/msg00220.html remains an accurate analysis of the overall situation. --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein lauren@pfir.org or lauren@vortex.com or lauren@eepi.org Tel: +1 (818) 225-2800 http://www.pfir.org/lauren Co-Founder, PFIR - People For Internet Responsibility - http://www.pfir.org Co-Founder, EEPI - Electronic Entertainment Policy Initiative - http://www.eepi.org Moderator, PRIVACY Forum - http://www.vortex.com Member, ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy Lauren's Blog: http://lauren.vortex.com DayThink: http://daythink.vortex.com ------------------------------------- To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
