This tactic was also employed in WW II, where British intelligence  
agents were instructed to end each transmission with a certain code  
phrase, unless they'd been captured and forced to broadcast per  
German direction; apparently what actually happened when agents  
*were* captured, and did omit the phrase, was that their counterparts  
back in the UK radioed, "Careful, old chap... you forgot to add the  
code phrase..."

Policy is only as good as its implementation... ;-)
