Dave,

Perhaps your readers might be interested in recent ITU 
statistics on the changing profile of Internet usage 
around the world during 2001-2004 at:

In 2001, the Americas had 38% of the world's Internet users and 
Asia-Pacific had 32%. At the end of 2004, this has essentially 
flipped with Asia-Pacific now having 37% and the Americas now 
with 31%.

Most of the shift in Asia-Pacific has been due to very rapid 
Internet uptake in China. However because of their larger 
populations and potential for growth, the Asia-Pacific 
region (particularly China and India) will continue to take a 
larger and larger percentage of the world's Internet users.
