Your message skips the crux of the matter: what's their incentive to keep it anonymous? How is it that nobody ever implements an anonymous automotive toll system (e.g. FASTRAK here in the bay area) even though it's _less_ effort?
And in the specific case of mobile phones, the carriers have yet to exhibit even a shred of concern for their customer's interest.

A lot ofvaluable information can be gleaned from using cell phones as anonymous mobile transponders. The key is that the wireless carriers not pass on anypersonally identifiable information
