http://www.copyright.gov/1201/comment_forms/index.html "The Copyright Office is conducting a rulemaking proceeding mandated by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which provides that the Librarian of Congress may exempt certain classes of works from the prohibition against circumvention of technological measures that control access to copyrighted works. The purpose of this rulemaking proceeding is to determine whether there are particular classes of works as to which users are, or are likely to be, adversely affected in their ability to make noninfringing uses due to the prohibition on circumvention of measures that protect access. ...The deadline for electronic submissions is 5:00 P.M. E.S.T ... Feb. 2.
Commenters are strongly encouraged to submit comments well in advance of the deadline to allow sufficient time to correct any format defects and resubmit comments before the deadline.Submissions must follow the format detailed in the notice of inquiry."
How To Win (DMCA) Exemptions And Influence Policy - The Sequel http://sethf.com/publications/dmca-guide-2.php "This is a supplement guide, concerned with the next round of that policy process." DMCA Reply Comments: The Rootkit Exemption http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/archives/004329.php "DMCA exemptions are defined in reference to a class of copyrighted works rather than a particular use of those works. Consumers, therefore, would also be free to remove software installed on their machines that posed security risks, allowing them to enjoy their lawfully purchased CDs on the playback device of their choice without risking potentially crippling security vulnerabilities." DMCA Reply Comments: The Cell Phone Locking Exemption http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/archives/004330.php "Were you forced to buy a new handset or remain with your current provider because your phone was locked in to a particular network? Have you been unable to use your handset internationally because of firmware limitations? If you can offer this sort of personal and specific factual information in support of this comment, we urge you to file a reply comment with the Copyright Office." -- Seth Finkelstein Consulting Programmer http://sethf.com Infothought blog - http://sethf.com/infothought/blog/ Interview: http://sethf.com/essays/major/greplaw-interview.php ------------------------------------- To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
