As the House of Representatives hammers out details about what federal
electronic medical records privacy policy (if any) should look like,
and whether it should trump stronger state laws,

hospitals and electronic service providers are finding that security
of existing electronic records programs is often lacking.


An unknown number of patients' records, somewhere between 5k and 23k,
were exposed in a recent Georgetown University Hospital electronic
records breach, reported today:

As the article points out, the exposed database was discovered by a
consultant who (good news) found no evidence of exploitation of the
info.  Bad news, that doesn't mean it wasn't compromised...
