Subject: [IP] more on iTunes FairPlay DRM is cracked

All this does is capture the AAC frames before they're decompressed by iTunes, so iTunes must be present, must play the file, and metadata etc must be entered into the new file. The DRM itself is as strong as ever; this exploits a weakness in the player. Which only goes to show that DRM is a security problem right along the usage chain, but we knew that already. All this said, I wish this group wouldn't use "FairUse" in their program names. It will make defending fair use rights harder if "fair use" becomes a synonym for piracy. Giles Robertson P.S. On investigation, metadata conversion is automated - see changelog http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=115377 On 04/09/06, David Farber <dave@farber.net> wrote:
