     Feb. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc. delayed the release of
Apple TV and said the set-top box for displaying digital video
on widescreen televisions won't be available until mid-March.
     ``Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we
projected,'' Lynn Fox, a spokeswoman for the Cupertino,
California-based company, said in an interview. Apple, maker of
the Macintosh computer and iPod music player, on Feb. 12 said
the $299 device was scheduled to ship this month as promised.
     Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs demonstrated Apple TV in
January, using a remote control to show how the device
wirelessly transfers movies, TV shows and others files for
display on widescreen TVs. Sales of Apple TV may top
$500 million this year and reach $1 billion next year, Citigroup
analyst Richard Gardner said earlier this month.
     Apple TV, which has a 40-gigabyte hard drive for storing up
to 50 hours of video, transfers content stored in the company's
iTunes software. ITunes works with the Mac and personal
computers running Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system.
     Shares of Apple fell 42 cents to $88.65 at 4 p.m. New York
time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. They advanced 18 percent
last year.
