     May 2 (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc. Chief Executive Officer
Steve Jobs, responding to critics of the computer maker's
environmental practices, said Apple will recycle more as part of
a plan to be a ``greener'' company.
     ``Apple has been criticized by some environmental
organizations for not being a leader in removing toxic chemicals
from its new products and for not aggressively or properly
recycling its old products,'' Jobs wrote in an essay called ``A
Greener Apple'' on the Cupertino, California-based company's Web
site. ``It is certainly clear that we have failed to communicate
the things we are doing well.''
     The company began recycling in 1994 and today has such
programs in 82 percent of the countries where it sells Macintosh
computers and iPod music players, Jobs said in the five-page
essay. By the end of this year, he plans to increase that number
to 93 percent.
